Q1. Define the following: Reproduction, lmplantation, Gestation period, Puberty.

1. Reproduction
Ans :-  The process of producing young ones of their own kind is called reproduction.

2. Implantation
Ans :- The fixing of embryo in the wall of the uterus for further development is called implantation.

3. Gestation period
Ans:- The period from fertilization of the egg till the birth of the baby is called the gestation period.

4. Puberty
Ans:- The age at which the production of sex hormones and reproductive cells starts in a boy or a girl is called puberty.

Q2. How does planaria reproduce?
Ans :- The planaria reproduces by the process called regeneration when planaria cut as transversely into three pieces each piece grows the lost part and develops into a new individual.

Q3. Give a reason for the following:
a) The testes lie within the scrotum outside the abdomen.
The testes lie within the scrotum outside the abdomen because this position keeps the temperature of testes 2-3 C lower than the body temperature. This temperature is most suitable for the production and development of sperms.

b) A large number of sperms are present in the semen.
Large number of sperms are present in semen as very few sperms survive in female reproductive system. A large number of sperm ensure maximum chances of fertilization.

Q4. State the function of the following: (a) Testes (b) Prostate gland (c) Ovary (d) Fallopian tube.

Testes
It produces sperms and the male sex hormone

Prostate gland
It secretes a thick milky fluid and alkaline fluid that provides nutrition to the developing sperms

Ovary
It produces ova or eggs and female sex hormones

Fallopian tube
The ovum fertilizes with the sperms to form a zygote in the fallopian tube.
